Chelsea police officers responded to 165 Cottage Street at 3:55 PM yesterday to check the well being of the occupant. The officers responded to the apartment based on a witness hearing a baby crying inside the unit and getting no response after knocking on the door.
Upon entering the unit the officers observed a deceased female, age 28 in the bedroom and her one year old child in the living room. Based on evidence inside the apartment, investigators believe the child was alone in the unit with the deceased for several hours. State Police Detectives assigned to the Suffolk Count District Attorney’s Office and Chelsea investigators have ruled out foul play and are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determinant the cause of death. The investigation is on-going.
The one year old child was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for an evaluation and later released to a family member. The police department is not releasing the name of the deceased at this time.
