Bayron Fajardo-Montoya, age 27 of Chelsea was taken into custody this afternoon in Irvington, New Jersey by the New Jersey State Police after evading capture this morning in Chelsea. Police began searching for Montoya after receiving a tip this morning and continued to follow those leads resulting in his arrest in New Jersey. Montoya is wanted for of a series of violent acts including rape, kidnapping and assault to murder. Chief Brian A. Kyes stated “although he was able to elude authorities this morning we were on his heels throughout the day and his arrest was imminent.” Chief Kyes also praised the multiple of agencies that coordinated so quickly in placing Montoya into custody.
Montoya is currently being held in the Essex County Jail in New Jersey and will be arraigned on fugitive from justice charges tomorrow. Pending the arrangement, Chelsea and State Police Detectives will begin the rendition process to return Montoya back to Massachusetts.
