Chelsea Police are asking for the public help in apprehending Mose Tene, age 28 of Chelsea who escaped from police custody while being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Police report that Tene was involved in a single vehicle accident at 12:10 AM on Friday morning on Highland Avenue in Chelsea and was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police later learned that that the vehicle Tene was operating had been reported stolen and that Tene was not properly licensed and had outstanding warrants on file. Police were unable to process Tene at police headquarters and per policy stationed an officer to watch Tene until he could be booked at police headquarters or arraigned in Chelsea District Court.
At approximately 6AM, on Saturday April 11th, Tene was able to leave his hospital room and escape. Police stress that based on Mose Tene’s criminal record police do not believe he poses a threat to the public. However, Police warn that if spotted, Tene should not be approached and the public should immediately call the police.
Police have issued a BOLO for his arrest and have released a RMV photo of Tene, but warn that the photo is old and his physical appearance may have changed.
