Tuesday February 26th- Chief Brian Kyes is pleased to announce that the Chelsea Police Department will be one again officially assessed for Massachusetts Police Accreditation beginning June 11, 2019. This will be the fourth time the Chelsea Police Department has invited this voluntary process to take place. All past assessments have culminated with the Chelsea Police Department passing the 257 mandatory standards to be officially named an “Accredited” Agency. Chief Kyes stated: “In order for our department to be recognized as an accredited agency, I have requested an on-site assessment by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. Verification by an assessment team that our department meets the accreditation standards is a voluntary process to attain State Accreditation. This recognition is a highly sought goal of any law enforcement agency”.
The team of assessors is scheduled to arrive at Chelsea PD on Tuesday June 11, 2019 to begin a three day assessment. The assessment team is comprised of three local law enforcement officials all of whom have been trained by the commission to conduct assessments. Donna Taylor Mooers, the executive director, may also participate in the assessment.
The assessment team consists of:
- Team Leader: Captain Kevin Dinapoli (Wenham PD),
- Lieutenant Paul Norton (Melrose PD), and
- Lieutenant Clara Molina (UMASS Boston PD)
- Ms. Romina Chorres (MPAC) will be facilitating the assessment on behalf of the Commission.
Chief Kyes further stated that:“ During the on site assessment, we must be able to demonstrate to the assessors that we are in compliance with the Commissions mandatory standards, as well as a required percentage of the optional standards for our size department”.
Captain Thomas Dunn, the Commander of the Professional Standards Division of the Chelsea Police Department, is also the departments Accreditation Manager. He and his team will be working closely with the state assessors in furtherance of this accreditation goal.
