On June 7, 2020, the Chelsea Black Community (CBC) sponsored a peaceful protest with an estimated 500 attendees. The community rallied together for a mile and a half march starting and ending at Chelsea City Hall. After the march, members of the Chelsea Black Community and city leaders spoke to promote social justice and equality. Part of the observance included an 8 minute and 46 second moment of silence where the community was encouraged to kneel in remembrance of George Floyd.
Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes thanked the community as well as his officers for maintaining a peaceful gathering. He stated, “The members of the Chelsea Police Department are proud of our vibrant community for using their collective voices and passion to stand against injustice and furthering equality for all. We stand in solidarity with you as one.”
