On June 8th, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts transitioned into Phase 2 of reopening certain businesses in the state. As part of that transition, restaurants were afforded the option to allow for outdoor seating with local restrictions.
Up to seven local businesses have requested outdoor seating permits. The City of Chelsea has imposed the following restrictions: all tables must be 6 feet apart, social distancing must be practiced, sanitizing practices must be enforced and alcohol can only be served when food is purchased.
For outdoor seating, hours of operation have been limited to the following:
- Sunday-Thursday: Closing time must be at 8:30 P.M.
- Friday-Saturday: Closing time must be at 10 P.M.
- These time restrictions are only for temporary outdoor seating permits.
As the state begins to transition into Phase 3, local restaurants will begin to offer indoor dining under the following guidelines: all tables must stay 6 feet apart, social distancing must be enforced, and alcohol is available only with the purchase of a meal. A mask is required upon entrance until the party is seated.
Certain entertainment, including dancing, live music, pool tables, and bar seating will not be allowed during this time. The Chelsea Police Department will be monitoring businesses to ensure compliance.
