Chelsea Police responded at 5:53 AM Monday morning for a report of a pickup truck that collided into an occupied home at 43 Clark Ave. Police and Chelsea Firefighters extracted the driver, later identifies as Juan Lopez, age 44 of Chelsea from the vehicle. Lopez was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, he was treated and released later that morning. Police report no injuries to anyone inside the home. The preliminary investigation on scene indicated that speed and not alcohol was a factor.
Lopez was not arrested on scene as under M.G.L, the officers did not witness operation, he will be charged with operating a vehicle with no license, reckless operation, and other violations.
The home was initially deemed not structurally safe by city building inspectors forcing the families to vacate the property,. The building was later considered safe for tenants to return to their apartments.
